[jira] (JETTY-1502) Seeing "Not valid UTF8! byte E0 in state 2" error

JIRA jira@codehaus.org

    [ https://jira.codehaus.org/browse/JETTY-1502?page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.issuetabpanels:comment-tabpanel&focusedCommentId=295091#comment-295091 ]

Jan Bartel commented on JETTY-1502:
-----------------------------------

Ryan,

This sounds like something you should really have brought up on the jetty mailing list at [hidden email]. JIRAs are reserved for reporting errors in jetty.

However, I recommend you use something like tcpdump or wireshark to see the bytes on the wire. Turn on all logging, and see if there's anything in the request log in the query string. If you can show that you are receiving valid utf8 that jetty is failing to parse, please reopen this JIRA.

thanks
Jan

This also leads to a 500 error, when a 400 would be correct – client did bad, not the server.

Was there ever a resolution on this? 500 response and WARN for bad UTF8 in a URL seems inappropriate. I see the same issue in 8.1.5
